Abyssal Refuge

The title is a quote from me that I've been using since late high school...about 7 years ago at this point. And it's been at the bottom of all these blog pages since around that time as well. I was originally going to talk about this in a Facebook post, but it turned into something a little more personal. :] So, just briefly: Last night at work I was talking to a coworker (also a fellow artist) about daydreaming and how creative people are able to so thoroughly retreat within their own minds and indulge in imagination even when others find themselves bored and unproductive. He mentioned how music helps, but said he finds that it aids more in isolation of the mind rather than inspiration. I had to disagree. What I said after that made me realize that I've never really explained exactly how music inspires me before, so I felt like sharing: Our minds have been trained throughout our lives to respond emotionally to different types of music (via movie scores, lyrics, etc...

It's been a good while since I last posted an entry. Even though there is a long list of things I still want/need to record here, some of the subjects I have lined up are waiting on project updates and others require a certain amount of time and inspiration to properly convey. But, recently, I've been thinking about something I've got the time and drive to briefly go over now. I have known a lot of artistic people in my life who choose not to use their skill. I'm floored every time I talk to someone who has the potential and, for whatever reason, justifies not exercising it. Many times it's "I don't have time" or "I have more important things to be doing" or "it will never get me anywhere." It may just be hard for me to understand because I eat, sleep, and breathe in the realm of art. I bled, sweat, and cried over it in college earning my degree. Been a while! Since I started work at Best Buy, my personal life has once again slowed up a bit in terms of getting things done...including getting blog entries up. The list of stuff I want to record just keeps growing, and I even have days set aside FOR blogging, but...priorities, you know. = / Anyway, this one should be simple and quick, so I'll go for it. I just carved my first pumpkin in about 6 years, so I wanted to document it. It looks a little...uh...crooked. xD My carving skills aren't that great. But I like how it turned out over all. The initial cut. I love the inside of pumpkins. It's slippery, but cool. xD I later cleaned the seeds and roasted them. I made a pumpkin man from the guts! He's contemplating his strange existence... HUGE GINORMOUS EXCESSIVELY LARGE POST AHEAD! Originally, I was gonna break these projects up by the class, but today's a blogging day according to my calendar. So I figured why not spend a bit more time with one big post today about all my animation projects instead of spreading them out... >.> I got time. ... I love saying that. Sooo, where to begin...?? We'll go with my 3D animation projects. ^^ And, no, we're not talkin' Pixar status here. I swear, I will never view those movies the same ever again. The amount of time and effort that goes into this kind of work is EXCRUCIATINGLY wearisome. And the big Mac computers (lol bigmac) could barely handle the short animations we were putting together. I can't even imagine what kind of system is needed to produce a professional movie of Pixar's caliber. 3D modeling and 3D animation were two different classes I took as we saw in earlier entries. ALRIGHT! I'm bringing this blog back to life! SO much has happened since that last entry, and I've had to literally keep a huge, long list of all the things I've wanted to blog about because there was no time. ;~; I semi-died during finals week with no sleep and very little food, then I graduated...somehow (yay!), then I was immediately thrust into cleaning/packing mode and finalizing degree + apartment paperwork, visiting old friends I won't see again for years, training for a physical fitness assessment, MORE packing and cleaning, and getting ready for another big life event. It was overwhelming. And then I still didn't get a break after taking care of all that, because right afterward, we loaded up the vehicles, and my Dad and I drove across the continent to my new home. ^^; I'll blog about all that later, but for noooow...
