Breach of Shadow

It's hard to believe. Finally...steps are being taken to let this ambition take flight. Very, very subtly - but it's free nonetheless. Breach of Shadow is the title of my latest digital illustration and holds multiple layers of meaning both in real life and in the image's story. A few may recognize the character. I have been drawing that burgundy-haired girl sporadically over the past 15 years, posting only some of pieces of her online. For those who'd rather not do the math...that's just over half my life at this point. She went by the placeholder name, Suki Tsubaki, but I never explained who she was or where she came from. 2004 2006 ... oh look, I spelled my name wrong :] 2006 2007 2007 2011 2017 2018 2018 I'm missing some sketches here and there as she's acted as a stress relief doodle on multiple occasions. And there are several sketches of mini comic pages somewhere in my heaps of art storag...

Facts and Opinions

My first blog post of the year, and it has to be spurred by sudden, acute irritation, bypassing all the other subjects that've been on my blog to-do list for years. This is nuts. I found myself at the Kansas City Comic Con yesterday with my cousin looking for a decent art print of Wonder Woman as I'd like a classic comic-style piece of her for my wall. As I was looking, I came across a rather large art booth with 3 colored prints of her which, while not my ideal picks, were not bad at all. It was then I looked up and saw who I figured was the artist working on a piece off in the corner of the booth, minding his own business with no one else around him. My curiosity as an artist sparked, and I slowly made my way over to him (I'm still a slightly shy person deep down). I read the giant comic art-plastered sign behind him which said NEAL ADAMS at the top. I figured that was him. The only western comic artist I really know the name of is Terry Dodson ...a prominent DC ar...

Spring "Break"

So, I'm sitting here in the computer lab at school during Spring "Break"...which really isn't a break at all as I'm spending it catching up with all the work I couldn't do regularly. x_X Figured I'd blog as I work. This week I'm making two trips to the hospital for a lengthy physical regarding the job I'm testing for. They're doing extensive testing on things like my sight, hearing, heart, breathing, blood, dental, body fluids, and women's health stuff. So far so good! My eyes are pretty damn good, but, unfortunately, they aren't perfect. SO...I will have to wear my glasses on the job. It's a field that requires perfect vision no matter what. Glad I already have them so I don't have to buy new ones, and also glad I'm not going to be a pilot - they HAVE to get corrective surgery if they're not perfect already. ...But the glasses are still not something I'm looking forward to. I also found out I'm blood type O+. F...

Fall '12 Conclusions

There's a LOT to cover in this entry. I hesitated to write it 'cause I know I'll be here a while and there's still so much to get done even though I'm finished with the semester. I will be working on school projects while on "vacation" this winter so that my workload next semester won't kill me. And it does have the potential to. I've been very, very sleep deprived these last couple months due to schoolwork, and it will get much worse. I will be swamped with so much work next semester it's making me ill just thinking about it. My professors are worried about it and my classmates were speechless when I told them what'd I'd be doing, but I don't have a choice. I'll be taking the Video Art class, btw. They found a way to offer it, so I'll be taking that instead of Figure Drawing. Which is a bittersweet thing, I guess. Ms. S was reeeally looking forward to having me in that course. She said she'd already begun planning t...

100 Drawings - close-ups

Well, I chose about 44 of 'em I really liked to share with y'all. I'd forgotten my camera at home during class, so I only have phone images of the pieces all out on the floor during critique. Yes, they're all mine. All 100. ^^; The critique itself was brief, which kind of blew our minds considering how long and hard we worked on these. But it made sense 'cause we had 2,100 pieces to go through in 3 hours. Stuff was heavy! I worked a lot with eyes this round - one of my favorite subjects.       Inspired by a classmate who was creating traditionally "pixelated" art. Don't like exaggerated eyelashes? Hehe... >:] This was hilarious... I literally got pissed at my phone, threw it on the canvas, and drew around it like it was bleeding. I then filled in the space where it was and called it a day. Apparently, Ms. S loved this one without any idea ...
